Racing’s glorious past comes to life May 19-21\, 2023\, as the SVRA Vin
tage Festival Weekend returns to Road America. The 2023 season kick-off event will showcase al
l the sights and sounds from motorsport’s pioneering age to modern-era rac
ecars.
The event features a packed schedule. Races will feature ca rs spanning several decades — many of the entries having previously compet ed at Le Mans and the Indy 500.
\nSVRA (Sportscar Vintage Racing Associ ation) SpeedTour events offer tightly regulated\, wheel-to-wheel racin g with a lineup that includes race groups for all SVRA classes. Classes in clude Formula 5000\, Formula Ford\, sports racing\, and production sports cars from marques such as Lotus\, Alfa Romeo\, Jaguar\, Porsche\, and Corvette from the ’50s\, ’60s\, and ’70s.

A mid-summer tradition\, the Weath erTech® International Challenge with Brian Redman at Road America\, taking place July 13-16\, 2023\, is one of the largest vintage racing events in the United States. The WeatherTech® International Challenge road race feat ures over 400 vintage and historic racecars competing across several days. The highlight of the 2023 event at Road America is the Kastner Cup featuring Triumph sports cars.
\nThe WeatherTech International Chal lenge is a premier vintage gathering featuring everything from a special C oncours d’Elegance on Friday and Saturday along the streets of Elkhart Lak e\, plus featured Triumph sports car racing. The 2023 event is a can’t mis s spectacle for any racing enthusiast. Come out to Road America to witness this impressive racing legacy.
\nTriumphs have raced at Road America’s fabled four-mile 14-turn circuit since the late ’50s. The Kastner Cup for Triumph sports cars serv ing as the featured mark for 2023 is a fitting tribute for the event as Th e Kastner Cup was named in recognition of the career accomplishments and l egacy of R.W. “Kas” Kastner who passed away on April 11\, 2021\, at the ag e of 92. Kas Kastner was one of the most influential individuals responsib le for the racing success of Triumph sports cars from the late 1950s throu gh 1970 and beyond.
\nThe Kastner Cup race is held at a different tr ack each year. The Kastner Cup has become a major event on the vintage rac ing calendar for British car fans who travel across the country to experie nce this race. The Kastner Cup is awarded to one competitor based on the f ollowing criteria:
\nRoad America is also proud to feature the Historic Trans Am Series during the WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman. This series brings together dr ivers to race classic and vintage Trans Am cars on America’s favorite road courses. Racers will get the opportunity to experience the thrill of vint age racing while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Road America. Fans will get the chance to experience some of the most iconic cars from the world of Trans Am racing\, as well as witness some of the best racing action the series has to offer. This is sure to be an event that both avid race fans and casual spectators alike won’t want to miss.
\nAdditionally\, there will be a special Ferrari Feature Cor ral at the 2023 WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman. Hav ing this special Ferrari feature is a fitting tribute as Ferraris have rac ed at the fabled four-mile 14-turn circuit since the track’s inception\, a nd many notable Ferraris with Road America lineage will be on display. Roa d America is expecting a bevy of Ferraris from nearly every era of racing. Fans can watch these impressive machines take a special all-Ferrari parad e lap around the track.
\nIn additio n to the WeatherTech International Challenge races\, make time to attend t he Road America Concours d’ Elegance in downtown Elkhart Lake\, Wisconsin\ , on Friday\, July 14\, and Saturday\, July 15\, from 6-8 p.m. The Friday evening parade and display will feature vintage racecars participating in the WeatherTech International Challenge weekend races. The Saturday evenin g display (no parade) features luxury sports cars rarely seen otherwise. T his spectacular display of high-performance race machines is a can’t miss event for any enthusiast or casual observer.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series rolls into Road America in lat
e July\, bringing intense door-to-door racing action to the nation’s most
intimidating road course. The NASCAR XFINITY Series schedule and the event
could prove to be a pivotal race for drivers looking to improve their sta
nding in the championship points.
The event has also been known to draw an influx of NASCAR Cup Series stars and various sports car series v eterans eager for seat time and a chance to capture a win at one of the na tions most storied circuits. Road America has a legendary history of featu ring brilliant racers on a challenging circuit that easily separates the g ood from the great drivers.
\nThe NASCAR XFINITY Series weekend will be jammed with on-track and off-track action as the Porsche Carre ra Cup\, OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Challenge\, and GRIDL IFE will also be on the schedule. There will also be open karting and Super Moto at the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex.
\nFans will also have the opportunity to check out a special Friday night Road Ame rica Challenge winged sprint car doubleheader at the Plymouth Dirt Track featuring the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series. Located j ust five miles from Road America at Sheboygan County Fair Park\, the 1/3-m ile Plymouth Dirt Track will have shuttles to transport fans to and from R oad America.

d you know what that means! For those who are intere
sted it’s the annual MUSCLE CAR AND CORVETTE NATIONALS car show at
the Stephens Center in Rosemont Il. .
\nI’m organizing our annual pilgr
image to the show on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 22 followed by the
obligatory dinner on the way home at PRIME QUARTER STEAK HOUSE in
PRINCETON.
I need to know who is interested so I can get the restaur ant reservation made. Details will be firmed up as the interest is determi ned.
\nLast year some of the women came to go shopping while the guys were busy drooling on super cool cars. Of course\, ladies are allowed to look at the cars also. T hat can be an option for this year if desired.
\nIt’s best to car pool there as
much as possible as parking is $15-20. Advance tickets to
the show purchased online are $40. I’m pretty sure it’s $45 if you buy ti
ckets at the door. Let me know if you’re interested and/or willing to drive. I’ve got r
oom for 4 others besides myself in my truck. Right now I just need to know
how many want to go. We can organize the rest at our next club meeting.
