Mid-West Corvettes, Inc. October 4, 2016

President Randy Huber called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.

First in order President Randy Huber noted the attendance of some of our Vietnam Veterans from Chapter 299, Rock Island were present. He called the Vettes on the River Committee members present to stand with them at the front of the room. Randy then presented the VOTR checks, one for $1000.00 from Alcoa foundation and the other for $14,500.00 from proceeds from the VOTR event. Chapter 299 President, Larry Tschappat thanked Mid-West Corvette members/VOTR volunteers for their hard work and effort and noted the funds are greatly appreciated.

President Randy Huber noted that everyone should have a ballot for nominations for the Board of Directors for 2017 on their chair and asked everyone to get them filled out so they can be collected shortly and tallied. Randy also noted you must be a paid member for 2017 to vote.

Secretary’s Report: Secretary Jane Huber mentioned she will amend the September minutes to show approval of the $200.00 charitable donation to GiGi’s Playhouse requested by Janice Couch. A motion was made by Sue Severs and seconded by Bryan Glossop to approve the minutes with the amendment. Motion carried.

Treasurer Report: Rosie Meyer passed a current club’s balance sheet around the room. She reported on the credits and debits shown. Rosie noted the Charity account balance and activity with credits from dining club books and the debit paid out to GiGi’s Playhouse.

Governor’s Report: Mark Hermann had no Governor updates. Mark did note he will be securing the date for the 2017 low speed event next month at the Governor’s meeting. Mark also thanked Historian, Waldo Arnholz for all his work regarding the tapes from ’63 & ’64 era of MWC that was provided by Matt Murrin’s family.

Membership: Mark Hermann reported we now have 171 members, a 35% increase.
New members Vern and Stacy Moon were present and stood and introduced themselves. Recently retired they purchased an 2016 Z06 Shark Gray corvette. The Moon’s were welcomed. Also, present was Greg Crouch he had attended last Sunday’s drive out with his Granddaughter, Oliva. Greg and his wife Silvia own a 2008 Maroon Coupe and he knows Jim Scranton and Al Fiscus. Greg was also welcomed.
Mark Hermann also reported on Donna and Jeff Lambrecht, the newlyweds. Donna was heading back from Mayo clinic with some success and Jeff will now be on long term antibiotics and they could both use our continued thoughts and prayers.

Social: Al Fiscus reported Randy and Jane Huber will lead a drive out to Tanners Orchard on the 9th of October. A flyer will be sent out by email and also Facebook. We will meet at the South Park parking lot by Denny’s and leave at 9:00. First stop is about 55 minutes in Galva, IL and then a short trip on down to Tanners and we should arrive about 11:00am to beat the Sunday crowds. Each car will receive a coupon for a half dozen Apple Cider Donuts and we will be parking together on the grass.

The Fall Drive to Winnona, MN is October 14-16, leaving from Hardees in Eldridge at 8:00 am. There are several stops along the way for lunch, beef jerky and apples. Saturday there will be a drive out led by Rollie and Pam Bogert, and lunch at the Pickle Factory. Dinner Saturday evening will be at the Cedar Valley Country Club. Al will send out an email, currently 17 couples are going.

The nomination ballots were collected.

Speed: Marlene Negus reported on the September 25th Fun Run Auto Cross event held. It was a beautiful sunny warm day and we had 12 vehicles run and 18 drivers. Marlene said it was the first time she had ever run an event like this and she enjoyed it, it really is addictive. Pizza was provided for lunch for participants and workers. Marlene thanked all those that helped put it on and all participants for a great day.

President, Randy Huber noted this was not a planned money making event.

Charity: Sharon Langel held two 50/50 drawings won by Roger Miller and Sue Severs. Sharon reported we are doing well on the dining club books with Roger and Amber Koppen as the top sellers; they have sold 10 and checked out 10 more. Sharon noted next month we will have to decide what we would like to do for the Christmas season donations.

Sharon also has a new pass around bucket for those that are not wearing their name tag. It is a $1.00 donation to charity on the honor system.

Car Show: No report.

Publicity: No report.

Historian: Waldo Arnholz mentioned it was National Taco day so have some Tacos at City Limits tonight.

Parade: No report.
Quartermaster: Kathy Ragona mentioned she has her sample clothing if anyone is interested in

anything.

VOTR: Randy Huber noted August 26, 2017 is the next VOTR event and it is penciled in to be in LeClaire. We had 403 corvettes in attendance this year and expect over 500 next year. Randy and Don VanDeWoestyne had gone to LeClaire and spoke with some of the vendors who said that Vettes on the River is better for them than 3 days of tug fest, they LOVE VOTR! Randy will go to LeClaire City Council on October 17th to report out on our event. Anyone is invited to attend. Randy also mentioned we could use a couple more volunteers to help plan 2017, if interested let Randy or Jane Huber know.

There was some discussion on location of next year’s VOTR with suggestions of The Mark, and the Convention Center area in Bettendorf.

Communication: Melissa Thorngren mentioned the use of Constant Contact is going well and should be easy for the new 2017 VP. She has sent out several emails recently and if you are not getting club emails please let Melissa know.

Sunshine: Melissa Thorngren recognized October birthdays and anniversaries.
Melissa had sent Walt Nenycz a card for his recent hospital stay and she sent an Isabell Bloom to Bill Ingersoll for the passing of his father.

Old Business: No old business.
Discussions while we were waiting for the ballots to be tallied entailed the Fun Run experiences. Rick Sherman mentioned that Scott and Melanie Fleming had their 4th grandchild, Madelin. Mark & Joellen Sperfslage talked about how great the Ozark trip was and that is was very emotional and what an honor it was to drive the Veterans. It was mentioned that we should do an event like that for our local veterans.

President Randy Huber noted the November meeting will be held on November 1st and does not conflict with the national election.
